A script is what separates professional, engaging videos from rambling content. Here's how to write one that actually works.
Step 1: Define Your Goal
What do you want viewers to do after watching? Who is your target audience? What's the one key message they should take away?
Step 2: Write Your Hook
You have 3–5 seconds to stop someone from scrolling. Your opening line needs to create instant curiosity, promise a clear benefit, or make a surprising statement.
Step 3: Structure Your Script
- Hook (0–5 seconds): Grab attention immediately
- Introduction (5–20 seconds): Tell them what they'll learn
- Body: Deliver content in logical sections
- CTA: Tell viewers exactly what to do next
Step 4: Write Conversationally
Write the way you talk — short sentences, contractions, direct address. Read every line aloud. If it sounds robotic, rewrite it.
Step 5: Time Your Script
Average speaking pace: 125–150 words per minute. For a 5-minute video, aim for 625–750 words.
